Pre-Loppet

I have not been getting much cardio in since Palm Springs so today I headed out for my first time on the skate skis this year in 7 degree temps…If it wasn’t a race, I wouldn’t be out there but racing gets me out in all sorts of conditions.

It’s nice not to have any pressure to get results since I’m not the best skate skier out there. It was a good cardio workout and after I got moving I wasn’t cold.

Tonight’s Beer – Summit Pumpkin Porter

I was excited to try this beer. I enjoy porters and pumpkin.

Marketing Spin
The fifth beer in the Unchained Series will be from brewer Nate Siats and is an Imperial Pumpkin Porter. Nate is a big fan of pumpkins and wants to do this up right, starting with where the pumpkins come from. The small, local, organic farm that is providing the pumpkins just so happens to be owned by Charles Jones, one of the strong fellas who work on our keg line! Nate’s desired flavor profile in his own words- A dark, chocolaty, full bodied beer with a slight bitter after taste. Evenly spiced with a hint of pumpkin, you would think you were sitting down for thanksgiving dessert. Perfect for a cool, fall afternoon.

———-
Bottle. Pours a very deep slight viscous black color. Just a hint of foam on top. Flavor is heavy with a tiny hint of pumpkin and spice at the back end. Just a hint of booze and hops at the back end to dry it out. Thick and creamy, lingers on the palate. Medium to full bodied.

It’s an OK beer, but did not live up to my expectations.

My search continues for a good American beer.
