Tonight’s Beer – New Belgium 1554 Enlightened Black Ale
This may be one of the best New Belgium beers I’ve tasted
A–It pours dark and opaque. It looked almost like a stout. Had a very small head that dissipated rather quickly.
S– Heavy malt scent up front. Caramel notes come through next, followed by vanilla and a coffee-like scent at the end.
T–Very nutty. It almost reminds me of what I would deem an “imperial nut brown.” It has a very strong nut taste up front. The flavor is a little weaker then I like, but it’s good.
M–Weak on the tongue. Not a lot of carbonation.
D–This is another low alcohol beer at 5.6% but this makes it very drinkable for more than one.
